Balers will densify the loose materials so that storage and transportation costs can be greatly reduced.Wastecare equipment is becoming a necessity in business.

The choice between Vertical or Horizontal Balers.

This will depend upon many factors such as the volume and level of automation desired. Horizontal Balers are typically much more expensive than the vertical balers but they are designed to do much greater volume so the paybacks are relative to the throughput capabilities.  Since manpower requirements are much higher with vertical balers these considerations have to be factored in to the overall costs.

Drum Crushers

Article by Camille Howe

Whether storage space within your premises is limited, or you simply prefer to concentrate your resources on production and storing unused raw materials, waste management is of major concern to many business owners, as it can represent a fair percentage of overall costs without actually providing revenue. Storing used oil drums consumes a lot of space, and without some kind of single drum compactor on site, you will need to give over a great deal of space to the storage of these containers due to their large size.

Oil drums have become one of the most important storage facilities in the modern industrial world, and have a huge number of uses within a modern factory. From being used as containers for raw materials through to being used as a trash can once they are empty, drums have a long life within the factory. Eventually, the drums have no further use, and need to be disposed of however, and whether this is because they have been used to hold noxious or other volatile chemicals and can no longer be kept safely, or because they have simply rusted through being used for a long time, the result is the same. They are garbage themselves, and must be got rid of.

Unfortunately, these bulky items are quite expensive to dispose of in their normal form, as only a few can be carried away at a time. With this in mind, a method of crushing drums once they are no longer needed is essential, and this is where a single drum compactor comes in very useful. These powerful and useful pieces of equipment feature a heavy weight construction that is highly specialized for its purpose, and offer you the ability to use forces of up to 37,000 lb to compress a waste drum from its regular height down to just 6 inches in height.

The power behind single drum compactors comes from a hydraulic oil filled piston that pushes down onto the lid of the drum, piercing it to allow air to escape, before applying relentless pressure onto the top of the barrel and crushing it to less than 10% of its previous volume. Once the drum is flattened, the piston can return to its original position in just 25 seconds, allowing your operator to get through waste at an impressive speed.

Aside from being almost peerless in terms of its ability to compress drums, the single drum compactor can also be used to compress trash and other waste inside a drum in order to allow you to get your waste down in size and make it much easier to store. Depending on the materials that you are hoping to dispose of, the powerful piston ram in the compactor can make a huge impact on the volume of industrial waste that your business produces.

Over its lifespan, the single drum compactor will save you a great deal of money thanks to the savings that you will get from reducing your volume of waste for disposal, along with the fact that you will require less space within your facility to be turned over for waste storage, and allowing you to focus more resources on more profitable activities within your business.

Trash to Energy

Article by D. Perez

Humans are doing different activities everyday including eating, travelling, making and creating new things. With these actions comes trash. There is a lot of trash that we produce in our everyday lives which is a cause of what we do. Waste management is the solution in making sure that the garbage will be properly disposed and minimize. Recycling, reusing, avoidance and incineration are some of the ways of waste management. Generating electricity from waste is one of the most productive inventions for waste management. In this process, we are not only diminishing our problems with waste but also using it in one of the most important needs that we have which is electricity. The waste materials are being processed to produce fuel to which it is being used for generating electricity to power plants, industries and even our homes.

There are different kinds of fuels that can be produced from waste which includes biodiesel, methane, ethanol and refuse-derived fuel. Biodiesel type of fuel came from waste materials like chicken feathers. Chicken feathers’ purpose seemed to be expanding because it is not just for stuffing pillows but can also be used to produce fuel. Methane fuel is what trash from landfills becomes when it is stocked for a long period of time. Wastewater can become ethanol if processed and can be used to fuel cars and provide heat for homes. Refuse derived fuel (RDF) is processed from plastics and biodegradable waste material. The trash is being collected and sorted to be processed and becomes RDF. Refuse derived fuel is processed using the shed and dehydrating process.

These fuels that came from waste are not only a great way in solving our troubles with garbage but also provide us green energy. Meaning it is safe for the environment and does not impose hazard to mankind’s health. Also, like refuse derived fuel, it can be stored longer than other fuel if densified. RDF type of fuel can also be co-fired with other kinds of fuel. There are a lot of benefits that we can get if we just know how to properly manage our waste. It is not limited to producing refuse derived fuel or biodiesel but it can also provide us different things if we will recycle it or do other innovative ways. Waste won’t be a problem if we will be able to treat it as a useful thing. Our trash will become what it is depending on how we will make it.

Dealerships and Service Centers Top Environmental Concerns

Lafayette, CO (PRWEB)

KPA’s list of Top 10 Environmental and Safety Concerns saves time for managers. Until now, there was only one way for a dealership or service center manager to know what the hot buttons were for compliance and worker safety. They had to sift through OSHA’s annual publication of citations for the entire transportation industry. From that list, they could try to decipher which citations were most likely to happen at their facility. The problem is that the transportation industry is a general index, and there are big differences between safety concerns at a dealership and safety concerns at a shipyard, which means that OSHA?s list is too general to be helpful for most dealerships and service centers.

That’s where we saw an unmet need. Managers need fast, straightforward answers to their compliance concerns, explains Eric Schmitz, Vice President of Products and Development. We have this incredible database in the myKPAonline system that records compliance incidents and issues for over 4000 dealerships and service centers across the country. Using this information, we cross-referenced OSHA’s annual report, including the 2,061 citations for the auto service sector, and made an accurate list that is specific to dealerships and service centers. Eric first revealed the Top 10 list in the webinar, OSHA’s Top 10 Most Cited Violations by Dealers.?

Mini Balers help with Smaller Recycling needs

Article by Doug Collins

Industry moves fast, but large and small companies still have to contend with a few issues on a daily basis, and that can be waste management. Managing waste is a hard thing to deal with for many, especially those that are not streamlining their waste processing routines. Oftentimes the traditional, larger balers are not the answer and it is prudent to evaluate the benefits of implementing one or more mini balers as a means of maximizing productivity and efficiency within your operations.

Since mini balers typically do not have the size, crushing power and throughput capabilities of the larger balers, they are generally used in areas where there is smaller volumes of recyclable materials that are easier to crush. Oftentimes the best utilization of it might be in situations where there is multiple work stations in different areas of the facility that are producing smaller volumes of these easier recyclable materials. As an alternative to purchasing one large baler (that is much more powerful) and placing it in a central location you may want to purchase 2 or 3 mini balers and place them strategically around your facility.

Because mini balers do not have the crushing power or throughput capabilities of the larger balers the best types of materials to consider for a mini baler are things like small cardboard boxes and plastic wrap. Loose cardboard and plastic wrap are some of the easiest materials to crush, and sometimes aluminum cans can also be crushed with a mini baler that is equipped with the proper compaction force for the tougher materials. Your waste routines and facility layout will be important factors in determining whether a mini baler is right for you. If you need to process these types of recyclables in one or more locations throughout the facility on a daily basis and are having to deal with smaller volumes that may not lend themselves to a larger baler, then the mini baler may be the best solution. They are great for reducing cardboard and shrink wrap down to manageable bales that are small and easy to handle. The small bales will make it much easier to process and organize these materials for recycling while also removing them from the waste stream that you are paying a waste hauler to transport to the landfill.

Oftentimes the biggest payback of a mini baler is not from recycling revenues but rather the money saved from the reduction in hauling costs resulting from the materials that are removed from the waste stream that would otherwise be hauled to the landfill. If you have enough recyclables that are baled and can be picked up at one time on a regular basis then your chances for recycling revenues is much better. Typically the highest dollars are paid for the larger more dense bales of recyclables.

Waste management costs can rise exponentially when there is mismanagement and oftentimes the mismanagement involves the extra handling and transport of loose materials versus dense bales that are packaged for maximum efficiency.

Mini balers are also excellent for situations where space is limited since the footprint requirement and height requirement is much less than a traditional baler. Small grocery stores, convenience stores and other smaller retailers are usually good candidates for the mini balers.

If you’re looking to buy a mini baler, you will want to pay particular attention to the bale size and bale weight of the recyclables that it will produce, Of course this will be based on the overall force being applied, which in turn is dependent upon the configuration of the cylinder size, Horsepower, pump size and other factors. Mini-Balers can be a great way to ease into recycling because they are easy to use and will almost always be provided with regular single phase power so they can be plugged into any 110 outlet. In addition the learning curve for operating these types of balers is very quick.
